De‚nition The most widely used denition of autoerotic death is the one by Byard and Bramwell, formulated in 1991: Autoerotic deaths are accidental deaths that occur during individual, usually solitary, sexual activity in which some type of apparatus that was used to enhance the sexual stimulation of the deceased caused unintentional death.1
