ABSTRACT

She was sent home from school due to feeling unwell and has been complaining of severe abdominal pain. She is tachycardic at 110 bpm, with respiratory rate of 22 and a blood pressure of 140/90 mmHg. Her temperature is 38°C. When you see her she is lying very still on the bed and looks flushed. She is very reluctant to let you examine her and is holding her right hip in flexion. Her white cell count is 19 × 109/L.
