ABSTRACT
The emergence of control theory is associated with the names of Maxwell and Vyshnegradskii. They formulated the purpose of control-ensuring stability-and proposed methods for selecting parameters of control systems. Since then, over almost 100 years, basic problems of control theory turned out to be related, in some respect, to stability problems. In the 1920-1930s, in the theory of regulation (which was the name of control theory at that time), ideas and methods of Lyapunov stability became widespread; in turn, control theory continuously stimulated the interest of researchers in stability problems.
