ABSTRACT

In the existing multiscale smoothing (scale space) technique, each point of a curve is subjected to various degrees of smoothing. At each level of smoothing the extreme curvature points/zero crossings are detected. In this approach, it is essential to smooth a curve at all levels of detail, to construct a scale space map, to convert the map into a tree representation and to interpret the tree to detect and locate the corners. In this chapter, we suggest a method [130] for determining the degree of smoothing in the various regions of a curve based on the local nature of the curve.
