ABSTRACT

However, there are ways to catch at least a glimpse of what might be going on inside the head of a participant. Asking participants to think aloud while working through the tasks presented to them in a test situation is one approach often used in usability testing. The reports of such verbalizations are called verbal protocols. Alternatively, the researcher could also interview participants about their experiences during the test, usually after having completed the test tasks. The basic connection between the two approaches is that in both cases the participants are asked to verbalize their experiences, providing annotations on their interaction with a device.
