ABSTRACT

Oil and gas are the lifeline of any country. Important oil and gas products used daily, such as petrol, diesel, cooking gas, several hydrocarbons, and umpteen other products, are made from crude oil and natural gas. The economy of any country depends upon how much crude and gas it is producing. India, which was importing almost 75% of its crude two decades ago, is now importing close to half of what was being imported at that time. Apart from economy, another important issue in oil and gas production is its efficient and cost-effective production, with minimum accidents and plant shutdowns as well as replacement of components and equipment. This is an important challenge, and one of the most important aspects of this is proper material selection.
