ABSTRACT

Information for the candidate You are the junior doctor in A&E. Mrs Jones is a 35-year-old secretary who presented with a 2-day history of headache and vomiting. On examination you find she has neck stiffness, photophobia and fever. Bloods show a neutrophilia with an elevated CRP. CT scan of the brain is normal. You wish to rule out meningitis and therefore need to consent her for a lumbar puncture (LP). She is a widow and lives with her 5-year-old daughter who is well.
