ABSTRACT
The foundation of ultrasound is in the principles of sound and sound waves. Medical ultrasound is an extension of sonography, which was a field of study used during the Second World War when the US navy experimented with techniques in their search for submarines in the world’s oceans. The key factors regarding the physics and general principles of sound waves are presented as a foundation for our understanding of venous duplex ultrasound.
