ABSTRACT
You may use the work sheet in Figure 5.2 to calculate takt time for a service or service family. In this example, which is based upon the emergency department introduced in Chapter 4, the patients arriving at the emergency department represent two different service families: (a) highly acute patients needing emergency care and (b) relatively nonacute patients requiring what has become known as “ready” or “fast track” care. In Chapter 5, we will follow the service family of ready care.
