ABSTRACT

When faced with the analysis of a new substance or one that has never been analysed in the laboratory before, it is necessary to establish a new method. Depending upon the compound and the matrix of the samples, the development of this new method can take a few hours to a few months. In forensic science, as well as in many other analytical laboratories required to carry out method development, a number of factors require consideration in order to establish a valid instrumental method of analysis.
