ABSTRACT

Republic of Croatia is a maritime country with 718 islands and 467 islets and reefs (Klemenþiü 1997), of which 50 islands are inhabited all year around. Of the total Croatian surface area 56,594 km2 (64.56%) is land area, while the surface of coastal sea occupies an area of 31,067 km2 (35.44%). The total length of the coast is 5,835.3 km, which is 1.4 m coastline per capita. Of the total coastline length 1,777.3 km (30.46%) is mainland, while 4,058 km (69.54%) island coastal length (CBS 2011a). Along the total coastline approximately 350 ports and harbours is located (TCD 2010).
