ABSTRACT

Maneuvering orders for a tugboat should be given with an advance agreement between the operators of the ship and the tugboat so that the ship can provide clear directions to the tug employed during the operations of entering or leaving the berth. Then it takes some time for the tug to initiate necessary actions and change her positions after receiving any tug maneuvering orders from the ship. Therefore, any ship operators should give the tug orders when the posture change of a tugboat is required, taking into account this delay time, a time lag between when a tug command is given and when any expected action is taken. This is essential for the security of both the tug and the ship supported by her.
