ABSTRACT

Enzyme histochemistry (or histoenzymology) is a morphological technique applied to functional questions in histology and pathology. Enzyme histochemistry constitutes a bridge between morphology and biochemistry. It also provides additional information to conventional histology and immunohistochemistry. This information is used to demonstrate enzyme presence or absence in different animal tissues. Detection of changes in histochemical reactivity is of diagnostic value. These techniques are simple, rapid, and inexpensive and have a vast range of application in pathology and disease diagnosis.
