ABSTRACT
In this chapter we prove the main theorems of Gauss’ theory of binary quadratic forms and connect it with the ideal theory of quadratic orders and the theory of continued fractions. Thereby the close connection between the various concepts of the theory of quadratic irrationals becomes apparent.
