ABSTRACT

In Section 6.3.1 it has been shown that systems (6.5)-(6.8) and (6.19)-(6.22) are equivalent. In Section 6.2 it has been mentioned that for truly heavily loaded contacts the numerical procedure described in that section based on the former system of equations still tends to be unstable. In this chapter we will use the ideas developed for obtaining stable and accurate solutions of asymptotically valid equations to propose an improved (compared to Section 6.2) numerical scheme for heavily loaded EHL contacts with Newtonian lubricants in the original (non-asymptotic) formulation. These regularization approaches stem from the solution of the TEHL problem from the preceding chapter.
