ABSTRACT

In this chapter, using the approaches to thermal EHL problems for line contacts developed in Chapter 7, a similar approach is developed in application to point contacts. The lubricant rheology is considered to be Newtonian. The EHL problems are assumed to be under the condition of high slide-to-roll ratio. The three types of problems considered in Chapters 12, 13, and 14 in isothermal formulation here are analyzed here under thermal conditions. Along lubricant “central” flow streamlines the point EHL problems are reduced to the corresponding EHL problems for line contacts very similar to the ones for isothermal and thermal contacts. Analytical formulas for the lubrication film thickness are derived.
