ABSTRACT

The chapter is devoted to the extension of the techniques developed in Chapter 9 for line heavily loaded EHL contacts and in Chapters 12, 13, and 14 for point heavily loaded EHL contacts on the case of isothermal point EHL problems for contacts with non-Newtonian lubricants. The EHL problems of Chapters 12, 13, and 14 are considered under isothermal conditions when lubricants are non-Newtonian. The problems are analyzed for the case of high slide-to-roll ratio. The point EHL problem equations are reduced to equations of problems similar to the line EHL problems for the corresponding non-Newtonian lubricant. In the inlet and exit zones along the lubricant “central” flow streamlines the point EHL problems are reduced to asymptotically valid equations similar to the ones obtained in Chapter 9 for line EHL contacts. Analytical formulas for the lubrication film thickness are derived.
