ABSTRACT

A numerical analysis of a steady point EHL problem is conducted. The main focus of the analysis is the influence of lubricant starvation of contact parameters. As a continuation of this analysis a problem for mixed lubrication is formulated and an analytical study of the mixed lubrication problem is undertaken. A specific structure of the contact region is revealed which consists of alternating lubricated and dry contact stripes. Boundary friction is considered. Additional analytical analysis is done for the case when the contact is elongated in the direction perpendicular to the lubricant flow. It is shown that in a dry elongated contact it is possible to propose an optimal shape of the solids in contact.
