ABSTRACT

History An 85-year-old woman is brought to A&E by ambulance on New Year’s bank holiday Monday morning, having been found on the floor by her daughter. She lives alone and had last been seen by her daughter on Friday night. She was found slumped in the lounge by her favourite armchair. She has a past medical history of rheumatoid arthritis, type 2 diabetes, hypothyroidism and hypertension. Her medication includes co-dydramol, gliclazide, levothyroxine and atenolol. She has no allergies. She functions independently at home with the support of her daughter, but has no formal care package. Her mobility is limited to 10 yards due to her arthritis and she walks with the assistance of a stick.
