ABSTRACT

History A 38-year-old woman complained to her GP that she was having irregular and infrequent periods. She also reluctantly admitted that she was growing rather coarse hair on her arms. The GP noticed her body mass index (BMI) was 31 and on undertaking a stick urine test noted glycosuria. He arranged for tests on suspicion of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and a glucose tolerance test.
