ABSTRACT
History A 16-year-old male was encouraged by his boyfriend to see his GP after developing a number of unexplained bruises. These bruised areas were not painful, and the patient could not remember having experienced any trauma that might have produced them. He denied any nose bleeds or rectal bleeding. On further questioning, it became clear that for the past few weeks he had been feeling generally lethargic and felt as though he had flu. He complained of a sore throat and for the past few days a worsening headache accompanied by nausea.
