ABSTRACT

History A 55-year-old woman presented with sudden-onset right-sided weakness on the acute medical take. Her history is difficult to obtain, but you can ascertain that she has never had a stroke before and denies any risk factors for stroke, such as hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia, or previous vascular disease, but she does smoke 30 cigarettes a day and has done so for the past 30 years. She does not drink alcohol.
