ABSTRACT

History A 46-year-old man presented to his GP after feeling generally under the weather, while suffering from cellulitis over the left thigh. The cellulitis had developed over the past few days and by now was bright red, painful and hot to touch. He denied any other symptoms of infection, or any bleeding or bruising problems. He had not had any recent insect bites or skin breaks, and was not diabetic. He had been given a course of flucloxacillin from his GP for a week without any improvement in the erythema, so blood tests were arranged.
