AV dissociation (P-waves can be seen in the QRS complexes, arrowed, indicating that the rhythm is independent of the atrial activity, see Figure 80.2). Note that cannon waves on examination also indicate atrioventricular (AV) dissociation as the atrium contracts against a closed tricuspid valve.
