ABSTRACT

The transition from an old to a new infrastructure represents an important shift within a technology and business environment. Before the shift, the original system has to succeed despite its environment. That is, the early adopters have to put up with relatively unreliable devices, limited services, high adoption costs, and other inconveniences. After the shift, the environment is being built to make the system as successful as possible. That is, when the new opportunity becomes obvious to major industry players, they move in to encourage and capitalize upon consumer demand.
