ABSTRACT

The Tech Battles technique was inspired by the events of the so-called War of Currents between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse. As we discussed earlier, in the late 1880s, the two innovators fought in the battleeld of public opinion which electricity technology was better for consumers, direct current (DC) or alternating current (AC). Paradoxically, for the consumers in their everyday lives there were no clear-cut, perceivable differences between DC and AC. At the time, the light bulb was the only common electrical device available to the public. The two major consumer features of the light bulb, longevity and brightness, were largely the same for DC and AC implementations.
