ABSTRACT

The balance between art and science is a delicate one. A beautiful painting is often admired by all; but it is unique. No one else can replicate it. A major goal, however, in scientific research is to have the capability for independent

practitioners to be able to repeat experiments so that the outcome is consistent. That goal is particularly difficult to achieve when the dynamic Earth is the laboratory. Establishing controlled experiments is hard. Imagination can help; visualization can help; and, art can help.
