ABSTRACT
Th i s b o o k is pr imar i ly concerned with methods of analysis for
frequency data occurring i n the form of cross-classifications or
contingency tables. In this chapter various terms wi l l be defined,
some necessary nomenclature introduced and a description given of
how such da ta may arise. La te r sections describe the chi-square
d is t r ibu t ion , a n d give a numerical example of testing for independence
i n a cont ingency table by means of the chi-square test.
