ABSTRACT

When you are considering each disease, it is useful to have in mind a simple schematic diagram (4). This allows release of information in terms of our current mechanistic understanding and identifies key facts that we need to know about each condition, even though many remain unknown at present. These include causal wavelengths, and the site and nature of the photon-absorbing chemical chromophore. The type of photochemistry that ensues gives details of the mediator release and subsequent inflammatory response reducing substrate damage with characteristic individual disease clinical features. This diagram is also of value in clarifying what can be done regarding therapy at each step in the pathogenesis.
