ABSTRACT

A performance indicator or key performance indicator (KPI) is industry jargon for a type of business performance measurement. KPIs are commonly used by an organization to evaluate its success or the success of a particular activity in which it is engaged. Sometimes success is de–ned in terms of making progress toward strategic goals; but often, success is simply the repeated achievement of some level of operational goal, such as zero incidents or fatalities in the workplace. Choosing the right KPIs, therefore, is reliant upon having a good understanding of what is important to the organization.
