ABSTRACT

The second step in occlusal equilibration is floating, or reduction of sharp edges and enamel points. The lingual edges of lower cheek teeth and buccal edges of upper cheek teeth are rounded and cusps removed. Figures 169 and 170 show a patient with sharp enamel points that are reduced appropriately. Figure 171 shows a patient with severely excessive reduction of buccal cusps. These cusps are reduced almost to the pulp chambers.
