ABSTRACT
The main purpose in learning bend theory is to be able to develop a ''flat pattern.'' A flat pattern is a drawing of an unfolded sheet metal part, taking bend allowances into account. One additional benefit of understanding what happens to material during bending is that determinations can be made about feature distortion prior to actually bending the material. This can save both time and expense on redesign.
