ABSTRACT
Data which arise from experimental designs and more complex surveys often have a well-defined structure which needs to be taken into account during the analysis. For example, in a randomized block design we know that each observation on the response variable corresponds to a particular treatment and to a particular block. Comparisons between treatments should then be made after eliminating variation due to between-block differences.
