ABSTRACT
The vast majority of statistical analyses (outside the Third World) are now carried out using a computer. Thus the statistician needs to:
understand the important features of a computing system (this should be an integrated combination of hardware and software);
know at least one scientific programming language;
know how to use some of the most popular packages;
be able to construct and edit a data file.
