ABSTRACT

The construction industry is one of the largest enterprises in the United States. According to the US Department of Commerce, total construction spending in the United States totaled $9.45 trillion in 2011 alone. However, the US construction industry lags behind other industries in its implementation of modern-day management techniques. Widely accepted management principles, such as those contained in the Standard for Program Management (the Standard) by the Project Management Institute® (PMI) are not widely understood nor implemented. This book explores how improved understanding and implementation of the Standard, with a few tweaks for construction programs, could improve success rates.
