ABSTRACT
Through the half century that I have been concerned with control systems, I have seen many fashions come and go, though some have had enough substance to endure. No doubt many of the remarks in this chapter will offend some academics, but I hope that they will still recommend this book to their students. I hope that many others will share my irritation at such habits as giving new names and notation to concepts that are decades old.
