Extensor tenosynovitis

Dorsal tenosynovitis is a pathologic proliferation of the normal dorsal tenosynovium surrounding the extensor tendons beneath the dorsal retinaculum. Nine extensor tendons are located beneath the dorsal retinaculum, within six separate anatomical compartments (Figure 33.1).
