ABSTRACT
Although complete spatial randomness is of limited scientific interest in itself, there are several good reasons why we might begin an analysis with a test of CSR: rejection of CSR is a minimal prerequisite to any serious attempt to model an observed pattern; tests are used to explore a set of data and to assist in the formulation of plausible alternatives to CSR; CSR operates as a dividing hypothesis between regular and aggregated patterns.
