ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 introduces an important topic that is part of the experience of many epidemiologists, and the topic is screening for disease among individuals who do not exhibit any symptoms of the disease. For example, the Morrison1 book presents descriptive and analytical methods necessary to design and analyze screening programs, and the Shapiro et al.2 analysis of the Health Insurance Plan of Greater New York (HIP) illustrate epidemiological methods for estimating the lead time and survival of the trial participants.
