ABSTRACT

Generally, the process of drilling always produces noise as a by-product. This noise is generated from the bit-rock interface, regardless of the type of bit or material the bit is drilling in (rock, wood, concrete, metal). During the process of drilling, it is important to know the type of rock being drilled. One possible way to determine the type of rock is to analyze the noise produced during drilling by identifying the specific acoustic signature of each drilled rock.
