ABSTRACT
In this chapter we discuss several extensions of the Simplest Problem of the Calculus of Variations. Although we focus on the first necessary condition (Euler’s Necessary Condition), there are extensions of all the Necessary conditions (I) - (IV) presented above. We shall derive the necessary conditions for global minimizers and simply note that the proofs may be modified as in Chapter 4 for weak local minimizers.
