ABSTRACT
This chapter surveys relevant research in distributed ubiquitous self-management systems and fault management solutions. It covers the salient features of pertinent systems and evaluates their suitability. The chapter concludes with an analysis of the shortcomings of current systems to motivate the need for a new bottom-up design of fault management reasoning facility and extensible self-management system to address the requirements for network management in a ubiquitous system.
