A space shuttle reentering the atmosphere withstands enormous atmospheric pressure and intense high-temperature friction. Without protective measures, the metal shell of the space shuttle would be ablated and melted. Therefore, the surface of the metal shell of the space shuttle must be covered by thermal tiles and an insulation liner. But what is the material of these thermal tiles? Why does it take a leading role?
