ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we report on an exploratory study of the life cycle of concerns during three design sessions, each session involving a pair of designers working at a whiteboard. Each pair worked on designing a trac simulation system for educational purposes, based on the requirements laid out in a design prompt. In studying the concerns in the design sessions, we therefore studied various “interests,” including key concepts in the domain (e.g., road), user-interface (UI) elements (e.g., visual map), model elements (e.g., road class), quality of service issues (e.g., number of intersections supported), and so on.
