ABSTRACT

The basic material of a natural fine aggregate is not usually a matter of concern. To some extent this has been “tested” by the formation process and any weak material broken down. There are some sands (e.g., You Yang Sand, a granitic sand from Melbourne, Australia) that are absorptive and may show some moisture movement, but generally the concerns are only with impurities, grading, particle shape, and how the sand interacts with the other materials (coarse aggregates, cementitious, water, etc.).
