ABSTRACT

A review of TLC methods for the detection and determination of oral antidiabetic drugs-chlorpropamide, tolbutamide, acetohexamide, glibenclamide (glyburide), gliclazide, glimepiride, and glipizide from sulfonylureas; nateglinide and repaglinide from glinides; metformin from biguanides; and ciglitazone, darglitazone, englitazone, pioglitazone, and rosiglitazone from glitazonesis presented. This chapter describes the methods applied for the analysis of these important drugs in bulk, pharmaceuticals (one or more component), new formulations, adulterated health food, and in different biological materials. For quantitative methods, sensitivity, linearity, and precision of the presented methods are shown. The TLC methods applied for the determination of potential impurities of the drug substances are also included, and they are described as stability-indicating TLC methods. In addition, suitable methods for the separation of these drugs in different matrices as well as for studying their lipophilicity are also presented.
