ABSTRACT

The history of antimicrobial preparations traces back in the beginning of the nineteenth century when Louis Pasteur observed that some microorganisms may suppress the growth and development of other microorganisms. They are the most commonly used and prescribed preparations among all antimicrobial medications. They are indicated in the treatment of infections caused by sensitive microbicidal as monotherapy or in combination with other medical preparations. In appropriate use, antibiotics are considered to be effective and safe remedies in the treatment of bacterial infections. Nowadays, many works have cited the thin-layer chromatography (TLC) coupled with various detections to study antibiotics alone and in the presence of impurities, degradation products, or metabolites.
