ABSTRACT
At first glance, some of the items in this short list seem idealistic and almost impossible to achieve, especially when so many other environmental crises jostle for our attention and action. This may be true, but the alternative - progressive deterioration of an important component of the human environment - is totally unacceptable to most of us. The country's estuaries and coastlines deserve a better fate than as collection sites for noxious material generated by an uncaring industrial society.
