ABSTRACT
Overlay: There are several observations that are significant and obvious, the first being that the world has a major dependence upon fossil fuels for energy-oil, coal and natural gas-to drive the world’s engines and power plants. Second, even with its problems with emissions, coal is expected to be a major source of energy in the world to the end of this century; and third, the most obvious, is that energy demand will grow as the population grows.
