ABSTRACT
Overlay: Because of the formation process, from fossils, there is a finite, and therefore limited, amount of natural gas available underground in the world. It is nonrenewable. However, recent technology-hydraulic fracturing-has greatly expanded the amount of gas potentially available to the United States from shale formations. As a result, the United States and the world now have large potential reserves.
